Obituary Notice: Alice M. Bellingham

Alice M. Bellingham, 86 of Philipsburg, died Thursday at Windy Hill Village. She was the last of her generation.

Born on Aug. 29, 1923 in Philipsburg, she was the daughter of the late Jonah and Alice (Hickson) Knowles. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Philipsburg

Mrs. Bellingham was a 1941 graduate of the Philipsburg Sixth Street School. She was a 1945 graduate of Lock Haven University, where she earned her bachelors degree in education with a major in physical education and a minor in English.  She taught physical education in Atlantic Highlands, NJ.

In addition, she was a member of the Republican Party, serving as the chairperson for Centre County for many years. She was a member of the Philipsburg Hospital Auxiliary and the Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority while at Lock Haven

She wed Howard Bellingham on Aug. 4, 1947 in Maryland. He preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 2009. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, a sister, Arlie Schnars and a brother, George E. Knowles

She is survived by three daughters, Stephanie K. McHenry, of Rehoboth, DE, Beth K. Friberg, of Philipsburg and Jody K. Demchak and her husband, Stanley, also of Philipsburg. She is survived by five grandchildren, Jody M. Herrington, Shelly M. McHenry-Farmery, Kelly M. McHenry, Jennifer L. Friberg and

Greta M. Friberg. She’s also survived by three great-grandchildren

A graveside service will be held at 12 p.m. Tuesday at the Philipsburg Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Tuesday at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, 228 N. Centre St. Philipsburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to Holt Memorial Library, 9 W. Pine St. Philipsburg, PA 16866, or to the Clearfield County SPCA, 541 Graham Station Road, Philipsburg, PA 16866.
