UNIVERSITY PARK – In the coming weeks, Penn State alumni will have the opportunity to determine their representation on two important University leadership entities — the Penn State Board of Trustees and the Alumni Council of the Penn State Alumni Association.

The Board of Trustees is the governing body of the University, charged with selecting the president, determining the major goals of the University and approving the budget, among many other duties. Each year, three new board members are elected by Penn State alumni; ballots will be distributed via email or paper on April 9.

Completed ballots must be returned by 9 a.m. on May 13 to be counted in the Board election.

For more information on the University’s Board of Trustees, go online.

The Alumni Council is the governing body of the Penn State Alumni Association, the largest dues-paying alumni organization in the nation.  The 86-member council, along with its executive board, determines the goals and policies of the Alumni Association. Each year, 10 new council members are elected by Alumni Association members.

Candidate statements, paper ballots, and instructions for voting online will be mailed to each eligible alumnus at the end of March 2010. Alumni can begin to cast their votes on April 1, 2010.  Voting ends at 11:59 p.m. on May 31, 2010. Only alumni who are gratis, annual or lifetime members of the Penn State Alumni Association may vote in Alumni Council elections (friends or associate members may not vote).

To learn more about the role of the Penn State Alumni Association’s Alumni Council, please visit the Alumni Council Web page or contact the Alumni Association at (800) 548-5466, option 3.

Effective with the 2011 cycle, as good stewards of limited University resources, the alumni elections will be conducted exclusively online. Members should update their contact information, including email addresses for Alumni Association records, at https://www.lionlink.psu.edu/AddressC.nsf/AddressChange?OpenForm.
