CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield man accused of accidentally setting a gun off during a domestic dispute waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.

Travis Stiner faces charges of recklessly endangering another person and disorderly conduct.

According to court records police from the Clearfield Borough and Lawrence Township Police Departments responded to Krebs Avenue for a report of Stiner “going crazy” and shooting his clothes with a .22 pistol.

Officers met to determine how best to go forward with the situation. They decided to walk toward the front of the building. They saw a large man and several women standing in the building’s yard. As officers approached, the man told them that it wasn’t him and pointed to another man. Officers approached him and told him to place his hands in open view for their safety. He complied and was handcuffed. He was then searched for weapons and identified as Stiner.

At this time Stiner told police that he did not have the gun, that it was upstairs. Two officers went into the apartment, finding a woman and the gun, a .22 revolver, which was found in Stiner’s dresser. The weapon was cleared and four live rounds and one spent round were found in the cylinder. One officer noted that the safety was off and the hammer was in the second (of three) stage.

Stiner told police that he and the woman in his apartment were arguing. At one point he said he attempted to leave and she stepped in front of him, grabbing his shirt. Stiner then grabbed her shirt, causing it to rip. She then became upset and tried to rip some of his shirts that were in a laundry basket. He said he then grabbed some shirts and threw them on a chair in the living room. He told police that he told her, “Why don’t you shoot them.”

He said he then went and retrieved the gun, cocking the hammer. When he returned the woman was gone. He told police that he threw the weapon onto the chair and that’s when it fired. He said he was not sure if by throwing it the weapon went off or if his finger may have pulled the trigger as he threw the gun. He told police that after that he put the gun away and checked to floor to see if the bullet had went into the downstairs apartment.

Police spoke with the woman in Stiner’s apartment and she told police that they were arguing when she grabbed his shirt. She said he grabbed hers, causing it to rip. She said that Stiner then told her he was going to shoot his clothes. She said she then ran downstairs to another apartment.

Police stated that the apartment below Stiner’s was occupied during the incident. The resident told police that the incident alarmed her and placed her life in danger.
