CLEARFIELD – The Meatheads and Buster\’s Sports Bar, both former champions from Clearfield, will open the 15th annual Clearfield 40-and-Over \”Past-Your-Prime\” Modified Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament on the Bucky Strunk Memorial Field Saturday at 8 a.m.

Pairings were determined by pulling team names and game numbers out of hats Monday night in Buster\’s, with concessions made to returning co-champion Aqua Specialists of Mechanicsburg and newcomer Bedford Over-The-Hillbillies for later starts because of the distance they must travel.

Krebs Moving & Storage and Siegel Engraving, two of the other four Clearfield entries in the 10-team field, will tangle at 9:30.

Pairs of quarterfinal matchups will follow on the home field of the Old Town Fast-Pitch League as well as the Lawrence Township Rec Park Field.

At 11, Bob Boob\’s Garage of Clearfield will take on seven-time champion Potter\’s Bricklayers of Philipsburg while Aqua welcomes the Bedford Over-The-Hillbillies to the tourney.

At 12:30 p.m., Denny\’s Beer Barrel Pub of Clearfield awaits the four-time champion Meatheads-Buster\’s winner and the Emporium Used-To-Be-Goods draw the Krebs-Siegel\’s winner. Denny\’s shared the 2008 title with Aqua.

Two rounds of elimination bracket are booked for the afternoon before winner\’s bracket semifinals at 5 and 6:30 complete first-day action.

The tourney resumes Sunday morning, with all games at Bucky Strunk Memorial Field. The championship contest tentatively is slated for 3:30 p.m.

Plenty of food and hot and cold beverages, all donated by area businesses and individuals, will be available at both fields.

To keep the tourney rolling as close to the schedule as possible, a 12-Run Mercy Rule will be invoked for the final three innings.

If inclement weather should back up games, the tourney committee has mandated sending batters to the plate with a 1-1 count.

All proceeds have gone to various youth programs, with the Clearfield-based Sergeant William Dixon Detachment of the United States Marine Corps League the primary beneficiary for its \”Toys for Tots\” program.
