PINE TOWNSHIP – An eight-vehicle accident on Interstate 80 Friday resulted in three reported injuries.

According to state police in Clearfield the accident occurred around 3:40 p.m. near mile-marker 110, westbound.

Vehicles driven by Robert Smith of Knoxville, IA; Kevin Crist of Wexfort; Roger Jenkins of Mesa, AZ; Cynthia Miska of Hillsborough, NJ; Kelly Wilber of Euclid, OH; David Hellman of Georgetown, IN and James Leeper of East Stroudsburg were stopped or slowing down due to a backlog of vehicles approaching a construction zone. Darell Kuleska of Chippewa Falls, WI was traveling in the left lane, approaching the backlog and failed to stop in time. He applied his breaks, which caused the trailer on his 2000 International to jack-knife and strike the rear of Smith’s vehicle, which caused him to strike the stopped traffic in front of him.

Police said that Kuleska’s vehicle continued to travel and struck several other vehicles before coming to rest.

Smith suffered minor injuries, as did Jenkins and his passenger.

Police were assisted at the scene by Clearfield Borough and Lawrence Township Fire Departments, Clearfield Emergency Medical Services and PennDOT.
