CLEARFIELD – Bruce Nicolls, director of curriculum and instruction, provided a preliminary report about the Clearfield Area School District’s performance on this year’s Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) tests at a combined committee and board meeting Monday night.

Nicolls said that all of the district’s elementary schools met Adequate Yearly Progress. He said that the high school achieved “progress designation.”

“We had the biggest gains at the high school, which we needed,” Nicolls said. He said if the high school earns the same next year, it will be removed from the school improvement designation.

Nicolls said that the middle school’s special education subgroup is on the “warning list,” however. He said that all other subgroups made the required designation.

He said that the middle school has the most students and subgroups, making it more difficult to reach the necessary progress.

“In general, we’re on the right track,” Nicolls said.

Nicolls said that the test results are not official, as schools are provided with an appeal period. He said that the district has no intentions to do so. He said official test results will be released in August.
