PUNXSUTAWNEY – A chance to tighten the Jefferson County Legion League chase for second place and home field advantage for the first round of the playoffs went by the boards for Clearfield Sunday evening when Punxsutawney scored in every inning to triumph 13-5 at Rich Kuntz Memorial Field.

Heavy rains forced the nightcap to be suspended after three innings with the Chiefs leading 17-5. The teams may try to complete the game when Clearfield hosts Punxsy Wednesday. If not, the Chiefs will return to the Frank Fairman Complex at a later date.

Clearfield could have taken second place away from Punxsy with a victory, but the hosts combined 11 hits with eight walks, a hit batsman and four errors to improve to 9-3.

Manager Sid Lansberry\’s Chiefs, who had won three games in a row, slipped to 8-5 in the JCL and 9-11 for the season.

Winning pitcher Tommy Bush socked four hits, including two triples, and Jacob Stumpf drove in three runs with a single and a double to spark the attack.

Bush, staked to a 3-1 lead after one frame and 8-2 after three, worked sixth innings, giving up just five hits while striking out five and walking five.

Braedon Pennington finished up, surrendering three runs in the sixth, two on Tanner St. Clair\’s second double of the game.

St. Clair had three of Clearfield\’s nine hits, while Andrew Redden cracked two doubles.

Tyler Jacobson took the loss, allowing two earned runs in one inning. Derek Danver pitched four innings before giving way to Redden in the sixth.

Clearfield faces another busy week with home games against Reynoldsville Monday and Thursday, DuBois Tuesday and Punxsutawney Wednesday and a road game against DuBois Friday.
