CLEARFIELD – A proposed “Who and What” booklet has the Clearfield County Commissioners excited.
On Tuesday Diane Kesner of Media Vision was on hand at the commissioners’ meeting to present her idea for the “Who and What” booklet.
According to Kesner the booklet would be similar to what the Greater DuBois Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development and the Clearfield Chamber of Commerce publish, only hers would encompass the whole county.
Kesner said the concept for the book came after speaking with businesses for 10 years. She said the purpose of the book would be to list businesses and non-profit organizations for consumer use. She said the theme of the book is for consumers to buy local and keep business in the area.
“This is something we need,” said Commissioner Chair Joan Robinson-McMillen. She took the book’s use further noting that it can give incoming business/industry a place to look for local services, such as contractors.
Commissioner John Sobel also commented along this track. He said that business people in places like New York or Boston think everything west of King of Prussia is frontier. He said that people from outside the area are sometimes under the impression that State College is local.
“This is timely,” said Commissioner Mark McCracken. He cited recent projects like Clearfield Bionol LLC and proposed gas well drilling.
Kesner said it would be helpful if businesses and non-profits across the county contact her with their information if they would like to be in the book.
“It’s a big undertaking,” said Kesner.
Taking action, the commissioners approved endorsing the book as the official business book for Clearfield County.
