WASHINGTON, DC – “Today is the first day local fire departments can apply for the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Fire Station Construction Grants,” U.S. Representative Glenn `GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, said Thursday.

The application period begins June 11 and applications must be received by 5 p.m., July 10. The program guidance, the e-application and a tutorial are available here. The tutorial provides grant information and walks applicants through the preparation and submittal of competitive applications. But there is also a help desk for questions related to the application at 1-866-274-0960 and at firegrants@dhs.gov.

The Station Construction Grants are part of the economic stimulus package under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. It is administered by the DHS/FEMA Grants Program Directorate in coordination with the U.S. Fire Administration.

Those departments that submit applications can contact Thompson’s Bellefonte (814-353-0215) or Titusville (814) 827-3985) offices for letters of support.
