PHILIPSBURG – A man accused of robbing the Cold Stream Uni-Mart early Wednesday morning has been captured.

According to state police in Philipsburg, police were called out by Centre County Control for an armed robbery in progress at the Cold Stream Uni-Mart in Rush Township. It was reported that a white male entered the Uni-Mart holding an object he represented as a firearm and demanded money from the clerk. After getting the money he smashed a security camera during the incident, as well as a phone and the clerk’s cell phone.

According to the clerk the man fled the store and went in the direction of the old Philipsburg Hospital.

Troopers from the Philipsburg barracks responded and got a de scri ption of the man. The area was canvassed and the suspect was encountered walking about a half-mile from the scene.

Police took the 20-year-old Wallaceton man into custody. He was in possession of a backpack full of money and cigarettes. He was taken to the Philipsburg station where he reportedly confessed to the crime.

Police did not indicate in the report if the man had been arraigned.
