HYDE – Philipsburg posted five runs on five hits in the first inning and went on to defeat Clearfield 7-4 in a non-league legion baseball game at the Bison Sports Complex Monday evening.

The host Chiefs trailed 7-0 before breaking up winner Chad Dreibelbis\’ shutout in the fifth inning on Derek Danver\’s run-scoring single.

After stranding three runners in the sixth, Clearfield (2-3) got to reliever Tyler Meersand for three runs in the seventh before Marc Godin halted the rally with a strikeout and a flyout.

Aaron Sayers doubled home two runs in the seventh.

Justin Hoffman and Kyle Timchak each had a pair of hits for Clearfield. One of Hoffman\’s was a two-bagger.

Craig Callovini\’s two-run double keyed Philipsburg (3-1) uprising against Sayers, who surrendered 12 hits but limited the Phils to only two more runs before giving way to Timchak in the sixth inning.

Dylan Corl and Ryan Wesesky rapped three singles apiece and Paul Hahn added a pair of hits for the Phils.

Clearfield returns to Jefferson County League action Tuesday with a 6 p.m. home game against Curwensville.
