CURWENSVILLE – The District 9 Class A Softball Playoffs semi-final game between No. 2 seed Curwensville and No. 3 seed Brockway scheduled for Tuesday was postponed because of morning showers and the forecast for more afternoon rain.

Athletic director and Lady Tide coach Allen Leigey announced the game will be played Wednesday, weather permitting, at 4 p.m. at the Highland Park Elementary School Field in DuBois.

District 9 Northern Allegany League Small School Division Southern Tier champion Curwensville (20-1) defeated Brockway (16-3) twice during the regular season.

In the 2009 opener for both teams on March 31, Holly Lansberry fired a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts for a 5-0 shutout and also drove in three runs with a single and a double.

Shannon McDonald and Ashley Demchak had three hits apiece, while Jenessa Stiles and Stacey Johnson added two apiece.

Lady Rover LeeAnn Holt surrendered 15 hits in the loss but has won 15 of her last 16 decisions, including a 3-2 victory over No. 6 seed Elk County Catholic on May 20.

Neither coach used his ace in the May 16 season finale, won 9-1 by Curwensville behind Johnson\’s six-hit, seven-strikeout performance.

Jordan Inzana pitched for the Lady Rovers, who finished second to the Lady Tide in the league with a 12-2 record.

Brockway\’s only other loss was 5-4 to Smethport on April 18.

Curwensville was a perfect 14-0 in the league, its lone setback a 1-0 loss to D9NAL Big School Division and Central Penn League champion Punxsutawney (18-2) on May 12.

The Lady Chucks, held to three hits off Lansberry, scored in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Lady Tide got to Punxsy standout Angie Burke (7-1) for eight hits but were unable to dent the scoring column.

Top-seeded Coudersport (20-0) and fourth-seeded champion Clarion (16-4) will meet in the other semi-final.

Thursday\’s championship games will be played on a neutral diamond with the time to be determined.
