Sandy Supers Given Winter Maintenance Report

DUBOIS – The Sandy Township Supervisors were given a report of the 2008/2009 overtime hours and material use as the snow season now seems to be completed for the year.

Despite the price of salt nearly doubling since the 2006/2007 season, the township managed to continue the trend of reducing the cost seasonal cost. The grand total cost, including anti-skid and over time, being $146,558 for 2006/2007 to $105,994 in 2007/2008 and $80,387 for 2008/2009.

The increasing savings each year was made possible by reducing the amount of anti-skid, salt and overtime hours. The orders for materials were kept near constant all three years.

With anti-skid the township managed to reduce their usage by almost a thousand tons each year from 3905 to 1570. Salt use has dropped from 1498 in 2006/2007 to 618 this last season. Township workers worked overtime more often, but in less bouts to drop the total hours from 1179 to 608. The latter reducing overtime paid out from $30,519 to $16,958.

“I just want to thank Dave for the split shifts, and money you saved us,” said Supervisor Mark Sullivan.

Last month Sandy Township road crews didn’t need to tap into the Winter weather materials.
