HORTON TOWNSHIP – A Ridgway woman and four children were left homeless after a fire caused an estimated $120,000 worth of damage to their two-story home Saturday afternoon in Horton Township, Elk County.

According to the report, an 8-year-old female, a 14-year-old male and a 17-year-old male were home at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported, however. The American Red Cross assisted the family at the scene.

Police stated that the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal and the Horton Township Fire Chief conducted an investigation into the origin and cause of the fire. The investigation will continue.

The Horton Township Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Fox Township Fire Department, Brockway Fire Department, Penfield Fire Department and the Ridgway Fire Department. The Johnsonburg Fire Department was on stand by at the Horton Fire Station as a result.

Police indicated that water had to be hauled in by a tanker truck to relinquish the flames.
