TAYLOR TOWNSHIP – State police in Philipsburg reported that a Pittsburgh man was arrested after a half-pound of marijuana was found in his vehicle during a traffic stop.
According to police Michael D. Maughan, 32, was reportedly operating his vehicle at a speed in excess of 80 miles-per-hour on Interstate 99, southbound near milemarker 57. During the traffic stop Maughan and his passenger could not locate the required documents needed to operate a vehicle. After further investigation it was discovered that Maughan was driving under suspension. The passenger was also under suspension.
Police stated that through the course of the stop a consent to search was granted by Maughan. During the search a half-pound of marijuana was found. Maughan was arrested and taken to Centre County Jail where he was arraigned and remains in lieu of $15,000 bail. The passenger was eventually released.
The investigation into the incident continues.
