James P. Schell Announces Candidacy for Mayor of Clearfield Borough

CLEARFIELD – James P. Schell is pleased to announce that he is running for the office of Mayor of Clearfield.

Schell has given 35 years of community service to Clearfield and the surrounding areas. As a volunteer fireman for the Clearfield Volunteer Fire Department he has held the offices of vice president and president of the department. He is a life member of Second Ward Hose Company where he held the offices of vice president, president, treasurer, foreman, truck foreman and was a member of the Board of Directors and the Relief Board.

Schell spent 15 years participating with the Clearfield Volunteer Fire Department Fair and Park Board where he served as vice president, president, assistant stage manager and stage manager.

He continues his service to the community as captain of the Clearfield Volunteer Fire Police. Schell is also a life member of the Lawrence Township Volunteer Fire Company #1 and a member of the Central District Volunteer Fireman Association.

In addition to his years of service in the Fire Department Schell served for three years on his local church Board of Directors as a trustee. He has worked as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, the Red Cross and an advocate for CORE, the Center for Organ Recovery and Education.

Schell is a 16 year cancer survivor, having received a bone marrow transplant for leukemia and a lung transplant that became needed from consequences arising from his cancer treatment. He attributes his survival to his faith in God, his family and the community that supported both he and his family throughout the time of his illness.

He was self-employed for many years as the owner/manager of Jack’s Distributing and is currently employed as a van driver for school children. He has been married to his wife Jodi, a nurse at DRMC, for 27 years. They have three children. The eldest, Janine Coble is a graduate of Clarion University with a bachelor degree in education and is employed as a special education teacher in Harrisburg, where she lives with her husband Zach. Their second daughter, Jessica Schell, graduated from Houghton College in New York with a bachelor degree in religion and minors in ministerial concentration and family studies. She is currently employed as a children’s pastor at Christ Community Church in Winter Haven, FL. She and her fiancé James plan to marry this May. Their youngest, James P. Schell II will graduate this spring from Clarion University with a bachelor degree in Biology and plans to attend graduate school to a pursue a masters in biology.

Schell will continue his long standing assistance to the community with the volunteer work that he loves but would like to expand his role in the community to include becoming Clearfield’s next mayor. He looks forward to working with Clearfield’s Borough Council, borough manager and borough employees as well as Clearfield’s chief of police and police force to achieve the best and most positive outcomes for Clearfield Borough and its occupants.
