CLEARIELD – A Clearfield man accused of molesting 12-year-old girl waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.
Douglas Eggers is charged with two counts of aggravated indecent assault, four counts of indecent assault, corruption of minors and endangering the welfare of a child.
According to court records on Jan. 24, 2008 the Clearfield Borough Police Department was contacted to investigate a possible sexual assault. Police talked with the alleged victim’s parents.
On Jan. 25, 2008 Police went to speak with the girl. The school guidance counselor conducted the interview. During the interview she stated that Eggers first touched her when he lived at the Dimeling. She said that Eggers touched her private area. Police noted that the girl was hesitant and reluctant to share any more details.
During an interview with a social worker on Feb. 18, 2008 the girl gave a more detailed, yet similar statement. During that interview she gave authorities a drawing of Egger’s old apartment.
On Oct. 9, 2008 Police Chief Jeff Rhone contacted Eggers to set up an interview. The affidavit of probable cause states that Eggers agreed to meet with police on Oct. 13 at 10 a.m. Eggers reportedly cancelled the meeting and never agreed to another interview.
On Nov. 14, 2008 the alleged victim was interviewed again, this time by a member of the state police trained in various interviewing techniques. The trooper noted that he believed the girl was being truthful.
