CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Commissioners took steps on Tuesday to revise their solid waste management plan.
Jodi Brennan, director of the county’s solid waste department, stated that under Act 101 counties are required to have a solid waste management plan. The plan ensures that counties have sufficient processing and disposal capacity for its municipal waste for at least 10 years.
Brennan noted that Clearfield County was alerted by the Department of Environmental Protection that they have three years left on their plan. She stated that it was time to update their current plan.
She added that prior to developing the plan the county needs to form a Solid Waste Advisory Committee. Brennan said the county had an advisory committee in the past but that it only had a few members. She stated that now would be a good time to revisit it.
The advisory committee shall include representatives from all classes and municipalities within the county; citizens’ organizations; industry; the private solid waste industry operating within the county; the private recycling or scrap material processing industry operating within the county; the county recycling coordinator if one exists; and other people deemed appropriate by the county.
The commissioners approved soliciting for members of a committee as well as work to begin on the solid waste management plan.
The commissioners are asking that those interested in serving on the committee submit letters of interest to their office in the courthouse annex no later than March 6 at 4 p.m.
