CLEARFIELD – A Curwensville man accused of robbing a convenience store waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.
John Robert Wagner III is charged with robbery with threat of serious injury and theft by unlawful taking.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Jan. 26 at 2:30 a.m. Wagner allegedly entered the Uni-Mart at 415 State Street in Curwensville. He was reported to be wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, black hat, blue jeans, red and white sneakers and a glove on his right hand. He obtained two bottles of pop from the cooler and approached the cash register.
The affidavit states that after his items were processed he displayed a black pistol that was in his waistband and handed the cashier a grocery bag, demanding money from the cash register.
He reportedly told the cashier that he did not want to kill her but if she did not give him the money he would kill her. She then put $100 in the bag and he fled the scene on foot.
At 3:16 a.m. troopers arrived on scene and interviewed the cashier. They also viewed video footage of the incident. Troopers then followed footprints to Wagner’s residence, where they received a consent to search from Wagner. His shoes and clothes were seized as evidence. Troopers also seized a black pistol, which turned out to be a BB gun.
At 9:40 a.m. troopers interviewed Wagner and he reportedly gave police a written and verbal statement confessing to the robbery.
Wagner is currently being held in Clearfield County Jail.
