CLEARFIELD – On Tuesday area emergency personnel responded to a fire on Interstate 80.

According to Company5Fire.com, the department was alerted to a vehicle fire at milemarker 111 on I-80 westbound.

“Rescue 5 responded and was told by dispatchers that there were two tractor trailers involved and that one was on fire.

“At that time Rescue 5 requested Engine 41-1 for back up. Upon passing the US Route 322/ state Route 153 interchange Rescue 5 was able to notice heavy black smoke in the air and requested Engine Tanker 6. Dispatchers then told crews from company 5 that the vehicle on fire may possible be a tanker truck and that it was under the overpass.

“Upon arrival Rescue 5 found a tractor trailer fully involved and that it was hauling French fries. Engine 5 then arrived on scene and Company 5 began to extinguish the blaze with a single hand line pulled from Engine 5.

Command 5 then arrived on scene and Captain 5 then assumed command. Engine 41-1 arrived on scene next and another hand line was pulled from this apparatus. Engine Tanker 6 arrived next followed by Tanker 37. Tanker 37 supplied water to Engine Tanker 6 and from Engine Tanker 6 to Engine 5. Crews then foamed the the tractor trailer and later assisted Bricen Towing with cleanup. Units on scene: R-5, E-5, C-5, SQ- 5, ET- 6, 6-31, TA-37, E41-1, B41-1, emergency medical services and Pennsylvania State Police.”
