CLEARFIELD – The wet snow that blanketed the area on Thursday night and early Friday morning caused numerous scattered power outages across the area.
According to Penelec Area Manager John Shimko approximately 20 individual cases of trouble were reported that affected about 1,600 customers in Clearfield and Jefferson Counties. Approximately 250 customers were interrupted Thursday evening and calls continued to be received overnight and into Friday morning. As of 8:30 Friday morning about 220 customers were without power with the majority of those located in Mahaffey, Morrisdale, Curwensville and DuBois.
Tree branches weighed down with heavy snow were the main culprit of bringing wires down but a car-pole accident in the Morrisdale area also contributed to the number of customers interrupted. Penelec expects to have all customers restored by Friday afternoon barring additional weather-related problems.
Penelec reminds customers to treat all downed wires as dangerous and to call 1-888-544-4877 or 1-888-LIGHTSS to report downed lines and power outages.
