CLEARFIELD – Former Pittsburgh Pirate left-handed pitcher John Candelaria and Carlton Haselrig, one time Pro Bowl selection for the Pittsburgh Steelers are this weeks guests on WOKW’s, (102.9), “Sports Sunday” at 9:15 am with Dave Marino and Bear Stewart.
Candelaria won 177 games during his 17 year career and was a 20 game winner in 1977. “The Candy Man” was a key member of the 1979 “We Are Family” Pirates that captured the World Series. “The Navasky Foundation For Life” friend and supporter last pitched in 1992 for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Haselrig was drafted in the 12th round, ( pick #312), out of Pitt-Johnstown, by the Steelers. The offensive guard, who never played college football, won an unprecedented 6 NCAA wrestling titles and was named to the 1992 All-Pro team.
