Sykesville – While police have as of yet been unable to identify a baby found in the aftermath of a Sykesville fire on July 12 they have come closer to finding a person wanted in connection with the incident.

Troop C reported last week that a baby’s body was found in the remains of a fire that consumed a large portion of a residence along Fugate Drive in Sykesville. On Friday an autopsy was performed on the child. The child’s identity and/or manner of death is pending those results.

State police were also searching for Joey Lynn Offutt out of concern for her own welfare. Early Monday morning police found Offutt’s Saturn Coupe along Waupelani Drive in State College.

Offutt still remains missing. She is described as being 5 feet, 3 inches tall, having a thin build, brown hair and brown eyes. She has offiicially been listed as missing person and has been entered into the national crime information center database.

Anyone who has come into contact with Offutt is asked to contact DuBois-based state police at 814-371-4652 or by dialing 911.
