Storm Related Area Power Outages Reported

CLEARFIELD – As a result of thunderstorms and heavy rain that moved through the area Monday night, approximately 500 Penelec customers were left without power.

According to Penelec Area Manager John Shimko, crews responded to 15 trouble locations. The areas with the highest number of customers affected were Houtzdale, Keeywaydin and Tyrone. The majority of the trouble was caused by lightning strikes on the lines. There were also two locations where wire came down and had to be repaired and two locations where transformers were damaged and needed to be replaced.

Penelec crews worked throughout the night to restore power. Additional problems were reported early Friday morning.

Penelec reminds customers to treat all downed wires as energized and dangerous. Do not approach or try to move downed wires. Please call 888-LIGHTSS (888-478-8465) to report downed wires and power outages.
