Philipsburg Hospital to Reopen Soon

PHILIPSBURG – If all goes as planned, the former Philipsburg Hospital’s doors could see patients walking through them by summer.

According to GantDaily news partner Channel 6 News, an agreement for the final sale of the facility has been reached.

Dr. Larry Adams said the plan is to open the emergency room first with other offerings coming in time.

The news is welcome, according to many in the area, including state Rep. Scott Conklin, D-77 of Philipsburg.

GantDaily spoke with his chief of staff by telephone Thursday afternoon.

“We are delighted to see the hospital on a track for it to be reopened,” said Tor Michaels. “We believe the Moshannon alley desperately needs critical care.”

Michaels said Conklin’s office knows of many who travel out of the area for medical services, adding that having such services close to home will be a boost to the area.

“We’re just thrilled to see it opening and moving.”

Adams told Channel 6 that he will hire about 50 employees for the reopening.
