The Gant Daily athlete of the week for February 19 through February 25 is Curwensville 112 pound wrestler Tyler Peters.
Peters wasn\’t the highest local finisher at the D9 wrestling this past weekend in Clarion, but he did garner the most wins. After an opening round loss, Peters ran off 5 consecutive wins to place 3rd and qualify for the regional tournament in Sharon on Friday.
The 3 honorable mentions for the week are all former winners of our athlete of the week (as the \”cream rises to the top\” during the second season):
First off, Curwensville\’s Dani Struble led the Lady Tide to two wins in the D9 AA playoffs. She poured in 27 in the 56-46 win over Moniteau; then scored 21, including the game winner, in a 45-43 fantastic finish against Red Bank Valley.
Our only two-time athlete of the week, Nick Sipes continued his marvelous 2-sport high school career by earning his 4th D9 wrestling title. Sipes was also named the AA co-Outstanding Wrestler.
Another previous winner, Sean Owen, was Clearfield\’s only district champ. His 2 easy pins earn him an honorable mention here.
