GRANTHAM, Pa. — Ruth Williamson, a Clearfield native who played high school basketball for DuBois Central Catholic, finished the season as the No. 2 pointmaker for the Susquehanna University women\’s team, which fell 59-32 to top-seeded Messiah College in a Commonwealth Conference semifinal Wednesday night.
The junior guard, making her fourth start, scored six points on a pair of three-point field goals, including one with 15:24 remaining that ended a 20-0 run by Messiah, but the Falcons led by as many as 29 points en route to their 24th win in 26 games.
Williamson, now a Gettysburg resident, also had four rebounds and one assist.
She totaled 176 points, a 7.0 average, to climb into 22nd place on Susquehanna\’s all-time scoring list with 600 points for her three-year career.
Williamson also was second on the team in field goals (60) and free throws made (35) and attempted (42). She shot 35.9 percent (60-for-167) from the field, 32.3 percent (21-65) from three-point range and 83.3 percent from the foul line.
She led the team in offensive rebounds with 39. Her total of 80 was sixth on the team.
In addition, she had 28 assists, 20 steals and eight blocked shots. She played 482 minutes, or 19.3 per game.
Jen Clark, a senior from Southern Columbia High School, led Susquehanna in scoring average (11.2) for the third season in a row with 292 points. Her career total of 939 points is good for 11th on the school\’s all-time list.
The Crusaders, who squeezed into the playoffs with two wins in the final week of the regular season, finished 15-11. They claimed fourth place in the conference with a 6-8 record.
Messiah, ranked fifth in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, and Moravian will play Saturday for the Commonwealth Conference title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III championships. Moravian defeated Albright 68-61 in the other semi.
