BIGLER – When the snowflakes began to fall Wednesday, it was just in time for a very special visit at two area schools.
In conjunction with studies about penguins, second grade students at Bradford Elementary School and West Branch Area Elementary School took in a slide show and received some gifts.
Dr. Donna Tubbs, retired Clearfield Area School District teacher, presented the slide show first at Bradford to the students of Mrs. Trinidad and Mrs. Collins. In the show were photographs from her own trip as well as that of Ray S. Walker.
Walker actually began visiting the students when teachers asked him to show his Antarctica slides nine years ago.
Since then, Walker has continued to show his slides, but guests such as Tubbs have lent a hand.
Walker’s grandson, Derek A. Walker, began the presentation by quizzing the students about what they have learned about penguins so far, and although several days of school were missed due to last week’s snow storm, the students surprised even their teachers.
After the slide show presentation, each student received a certificate, T-shirt and pencil sharpener courtesy of Walker Financial Services.
The students were also visited by the Giant Penguin.
As an extra-special treat, the students were given penguin cakes from Dairy Queen of Clearfield.
