CLEARFIELD – The big winter storm hitting Clearfield County and the rest of Central Pennsylvania Tuesday is expected to continue through Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Meteorologists are expecting this to be the first widespread winter storm for most of Central Pennsylvania this season. Snowfall totals between one and two feet are likely in the northern mountains by the end of storm late Wednesday

A wintry mix of precipititation is possible across far Southern Pennsylvania Tuesday night, but most of the precipitation will fall as snow north of state Route 22.

Meanwhile, a heavy snow warning remains in effect until 4 p.m. Wednesday. A heavy snow warning means that a significant amount of snow is forecast that will make travel dangerous.

Snow will continue Tuesday, and it is expected to get even heavier as it continues. The heaviest of the snow will occur late tonight and before noon Wednesday.

Winds are expected to get stronger during the day Wednesday and may lead to blowing and drifting of deep snow.

The National Weather Service suggests that if you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and a cell phone in your vehicle in case you become stranded.
