Bison Swimmers Split with Bradford, Boys Now 10-1

BRADFORD — Clearfield split a swimming dual meet with Bradford last night at the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford.

The boys won by a 105-60 score, while the girls fell 94-76. The boys raised their season record to 10-1, while the girls are 7-4.

\”As a team, I think there were some great individual performances, but we really struggled in the relays,\” said head swimming coach Jackie Morrison of her team’s performance. \”Overall, it was an up-and-down performance. We had some real extremes because some of the kids were really strong, while others were struggling, especially in the relays. They need to step it up in the relays, and some kids are going to have to start pulling their weight. It’s got to be a team effort.\”

In the boys dual, Shay Flanagan and Mark Krchnak were double winners for the Bisons.

Flanagan won both the open 200 and 500 free, while Krchnak took the open 200 IM and 100 breaststroke.

\”Shay Flanagan had a really good 500 swim,\” said Morrison.\” With championships being swam in that pool, we wanted to learn the facility [University of Pittsburgh-Bradford]. Some of my boys took advantage of that. I really think Flanagan and Boyer took that seriously.\”

Other individual winners were Logan Shirey in the open 100 fly and Chris Bodle in the open 100 backstroke.

The Bisons had a trio of seniors record second place finishes, including Brandon Boyer (open 50 and 100 free), Chris Bodle (open 200 free) and John Bodle (open 100 fly).

Brady Mulhollem (open 200 and 500 free), John Bodle (open 200 IM), Clyde Coates (open 100 fly), Kraig Peterson (open 100 backstroke) and Shirey (open 100 breaststroke) took third.

In team events, Clearfield won both the 200 medley and 400 free relays, while Bradford owned the 200 free relay.

On the girls side, Carolyn Shurer and Chelsey Dufour were individual winners for the Lady Bisons.

Shurer posted a first place finish in the open 500 free, while Dufour won the open 100 backstroke.

Three others placed second including Shelbie King (open 200 IM and 100 fly), Shurer (open 200 free) and Dufour (open 50 free).

Although Clearfield didn‘t win the open 200 IM, Morrison was still impressed with her girls‘ performances when she said, \”Shelbie King and Jaclyn Marsh both had great IM swims. They both had personal bests and swam particularly well in that event.\”

Other placewinners were Marisa Howell (open 100 free and backstroke), Jaclyn Marsh (open 200 IM), Brandi Centi (open 50 free) and Allison White (open 100 breaststroke).

In team events, Clearfield won the 200 medley relay, while Bradford took advantage of the Lady Bisons’ struggles, winning both the open 200 and 400 free relays.

\”Individually, the girls swam well, but were weak in the relays,\” said Morrison. \”They need to start swimming for each other. Relays will be key. You cannot slack in relays and win championships. That’s something we really need to work on, and it will be our focus this week with championships coming up.\”

Clearfield is back in action Monday when the Bisons travel to St. Marys. The meet is set for 6 p.m.
