HARRISBURG – The application for the proposed Camp Hope Run landfill in Boggs Township has been deemed administratively incomplete, according to the Department of Environmental Protection.
Among the missing information is a justification for the $30 million price tag for the operation that has led the applicant, PA Waste LLC, to ask for a 25-year lifespan for the landfill. DEP in a letter to PA Waste also cited concern that leachate from the landfill is to be treated at a sewage treatment facility that has yet to be constructed.
The facility would be built by PA Waste but operated by the Wallaceton-Boggs Municipal Authority. DEP noted that the appropriate application for such a facility has yet to be submitted to DEP’s Water Management Program. That process, according to a letter from DEP to PA Waste, could take up to one year.
The correspondence also highlights other issues that need to be addressed including proof that the notice of application was published in a newspaper, an outdated form and failure to notify DEP of where the deed for the property is filed.
PA Waste now has 90 days from the date of the letter (Jan. 29) to address all of the problems. If PA Waste fails to do so, the application is automatically denied.
