DUBOIS – The DuBois Educational Foundation has initiated the 2007 annual appeal with a goal of $50,000. This year, according to DEF president Ed Nasuti, the foundation has also embarked upon a new endowed scholarship.
“Recently, the DEF took advantage of Penn State’s Trustee Matching Scholarship Program and created a new endowment that will benefit Penn State DuBois students,” Nasuti said. This is a great opportunity to obtain additional scholarship dollars for Penn State DuBois students.”
The DEF campaign will continue to support Adult Learner Scholarships, varsity athletics, Educational Excellence Grants, and the Educator of the Year Award at Penn State DuBois.
More than one-third of the students enrolled at Penn State DuBois are 24 years of age or older and most must also balance the demands of home, families, and jobs as they seek their education. The Adult Learner Scholarship helps ease the financial strain for promising adult learners who demonstrate superior academic achievement. The recognition also provides students the encouragement to continue on their path to make life better for themselves and their families.
Educational Excellence Grants are awarded to campus faculty and staff needing financial support to further research, advanced teaching techniques, academic presentations and conference attendance. The impact has direct benefits for students, Nasuti said, in research experience, while others gain from the knowledge and experience of the faculty and staff who participate in DEF-supported efforts.
The DEF has also encouraged teaching excellence at Penn State DuBois through the Educator of the Year Award. Each year, the selection committee receives nominations from the campus community and selects the full-time faculty member who best exhibits a total commitment to teaching excellence, both in and out of the classroom.
“Since 1935, community support has led to the establishment and improvement of educational opportunities right here at Penn State DuBois,” Nasuti said. “Financial assistance will help to ensure that your family, friends and neighbors will have that access for many years to come.”
The campus serves the Clearfield, Jefferson, Elk, Cameron, Potter, McKean, Forest and Clarion counties market, as well as northern Indiana County.
