Hyde — The Lady Bison Swimmers swept the one meter dive and took second in the 200 free relay en route a 94-91 win over Bradford last night in dual meet competition.
“It was a close meet for the girls,” said head coach Jackie Morrison. “Luckily, we came out on the winning side. We needed to finish second in the 200 free and they knew that” … “It was a total team effort. I know that sounds cliché, but it was so true. The girls couldn’t have chosen a better time to rise to the occasion.”
In the girl’s dual, Carolyn Shurer was a double winner for the Bisons. Shurer won both the open 200 and 500 free.
Other individual winners were Chelsey Dufour in the open 100 backstroke and Jennifer Williams in the one meter dive.
Morrison was impressed by Williams’ performance when she said, “Jennifer Williams had a great night on the boards. She’s consistent and a virtual first at every meet, and you can’t overlook that.”
Lady Bison Shelbie King added a pair of second place finishes in the open 200 IM and the open 100 fly.
Also placing second were Dufour (open 50 free), Christie Pizzella (one meter dive), Marisa Howell (open 100 free) and Allison White (open 100 breaststroke).
Clearfield had five third placewinners including Brandie Centi (open 50 free), Amber Centi (one meter dive), Branda Smeltzer (open 100 free), Howell (open 100 backstroke) and Jaclyn Marsh (open 100 breaststroke).
Morrison was pleased with her girls’ performance. “So many personal bests. Shurer. Personal best. Marsh. Personal best. King. Personal best. Dufour. Personal best. I could go down through the line-up. All the girls swam well.”
In team events, the Lady Bisons won the open 200 medley relay, while Bradford took both the 200 and 400 free. However, Clearfield’s second place finishes were enough for the win.
On the boy’s side, the Bisons won by a 122-58 score.
Shay Flanagan and Mark Krchnak were double winners. Flanagan won both the open 200 and 500 free, while Krchnak took the open 200 IM and the open 100 breaststroke.
Also winning events were Logan Shirey (open 100 fly), Chris Bodle (open 100 backstroke) and Steven Williams (one meter dive).
Five other Bisons earned second including John Bodle (Open 200 IM and open 100 fly), Brandon Boyer (open 50 and 100 free), Tyler Shaw (one meter dive), Kraig Peterson (open 100 backstroke) and Shirey (open 100 breaststroke).
Although John Bodle didn’t win the open 100 fly, his performance stood out to Morrison. “The fly was a breakthrough performance for him. He’s been trying to hit that one minute mark.”
Chris Bodle (open 200 free), Jason Maines (one meter dive), Taylor Boyle (open 100 fly), Justin DeCasper (open 100 free) and Brady Muhollem (open 500 free) posted third place finishes.
In team events, Clearfield won the open 200 medley relay and the open 400 free, while Bradford managed a win in the open 200 free.
“The boys didn’t have near the drama,” said Morrison. “Bradford didn’t have a few of their boys. It will be a lot tougher when we go up there.”
The boys raised their record to 6-1, while the girls are 5-2 on the season.
Clearfield is back in action Thursday when the Bisons travel to Danville. The meet is set for 4:30 p.m.
