Undefeated Ridgway Pins 52-10 Loss on Curwensville

RIDGWAY — The undefeated Ridgway Elkers lived up to their billing as Off The Mat Weekly Magazine\’s sixth-ranked Class AA schoolboy wrestling team in the state against Curwensville Thursday night, losing only three bouts en route to their ninth win, 52-10.
 
In the featured bout matching District 9\’s top two 189 pounders, Elker junior Jerico Weitzel (17-0) earned a 2-1 decision over Nick Sipes (15-2). Weitzel was No. 3 and Sipes No. 4 in Off The Mat\’s state Class AA individual rankings.
 
Ridgway\’s lineup also has PIAA champion Nikko Leitzell (18-0), No. 1 at 145, and Colby Pisani (17-1), No. 2 at 135. They join Weitzel as top-ranked in District 9 Class AA by Crossface Wrestling along with Derek Konen (16-5) at 112, Brock Leitzel (18-0) at 130 and Troy Betts (16-2) at 215.
 
The Golden Tide winners were Tyler Peters with a major decision at 119 and Derek Brothers and Jarrett Sloppy with decisions at 103 and 160, respectively.
 
Brothers (17-3) replaced Garet Pisani (17-2) as Crossface Wrestling\’s top 9-AA lightweight by posting a 4-1 victory in another highlight match.
 
Peters shut out Jeff Maloney 8-0, while Sloppy bested Jack Urmann 7-3.
 
The Golden Tide (4-3) is idle until the Grove City Tournament Jan. 26 and 27.
