STATE COLLEGE – On paper, Clearfield and State College appeared to be a close match-up with both wrestling teams sporting young rosters.
The Bison line-up featured the usual seven sophomores, while State College sent out four sophomores and three freshman.
However, the Little Lions had a slight advantage heading into last night‘s dual meet.
State College had a better dual meet record at 2-1, while the Bisons were struggling at 2-4.
In addition, State College had seven wrestlers with winning records to Clearfield’s three.
The Bisons won last year’s match by a 45-19 final, but State College turned the tables with a 49-9 victory.
Holden Lowe and Andrew Spicer were the Bisons only winners at 103 and 112, respectively.
After going scoreless for two periods, Lowe earned a third-period escape to defeat Erik Galloway 1-0, while Spicer needed only 2:14 to pin Chris Barksdale.
At heavyweight, Bison Sean Owen scored a pair of takedowns and two near fall points. Crissman escaped the pin to face a 6-2 deficit.
However, Owen stumbled and Crissman took advantage, putting Owen on his back.
Crissman got the fall in 1:44.
Also, winning by fall for State College were Chad Dreibelbis (189, 3:48) and Scott Glass (130, 4:00).
Steve Bosak and Tyler Tressler posted technical falls at 145 and 140, respectively.
Seven others managed decision wins including Ted Sunday (152), Luke Harding (160), Allen Dreibelbis (171), Andrew Dreibelbis (215), Tyler Sunday (119), Kurt Gesell (125) and Jed Koll (135).
Clearfield has 10 days off and will return to action Jan. 23 when the Bisons host St. Marys. The match is set for 6:30 p.m.
