CLEARFIELD – A man arrested on Oct. 21 for possession of crystal methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana and large amounts of cash had a motion for bail reduction denied on Tuesday.
Kenneth Luchini was pulled over on that date after police noticed his registration was expired.
A further search of his vehicle by Curwensville Borough’s police dog yielded more cash, $11,300, all in $100 bills. Also found were three cell phones, 12 grinding wheels and two driver’s licenses that did not belong to Luchini.
Luchini said that he wanted a lesser bail amount to take care of financial issues before he gets sentenced.
Luchini appeared in court yesterday as well. In both instances Luchini explained a confusing set of circumstances in which he had his preliminary hearing, then waived his formal arraignment. Luchini said that he posted bail and was out briefly before a warrant was issued because of a failure to appear for formal arraignment. Luchini claims that his former attorney, Steve Jarrett, did not perform his duties properly, which led to Luchini being back in jail.
The Clearfield County District Attorney’s office argued that Luchini’s bail was adequate for his charges.
“We feel $50,000 is the proper amount,” said F. Cortez “Chip” Bell III, assistant district attorney.
Clearfield County President Judge Fredric J. Ammerman heard and denied the motion.
