HARRISBURG – For many workers, Tuesday marks the first day they will receive extra money due to an increase in Pennsylvania’s minimum wage.
The shift actually went into effect on Monday.
As of that date, the $5.15 minimum wage became obsolete, to be replaced by a new $6.25 minimum wage. The rate goes up again to $7.15 on July 1.
For smaller employers (those with fewer than 10 employees), a different schedule is to be used with workers earning $5.65 per hour effective Monday and $6.65 per hour effective July 1. Those workers will receive $7.15 per hour beginning July 1, 2008.
Failure to comply with the new rules could result in fines and other penalties for employers.
