Curwensville– The Curwensville Area High School wrestling team won four of the seven bouts that were contested and benefited from seven forfeits for a 57-14 victory over Brockway in Patten Hall Tuesday night.

Derek Brothers at 103 pounds, Duane Wriglesworth III at 135 and Jarret Sloppy at 160 posted major decisions in the Golden Tide\’s home debut, but the highlight was Jeff Thomas\’ 5-4 decision over Dillon Park at 130 on a reversal with 20 seconds left.

Thomas took down the two-time District 9 Class AA Tournament third placer with a dump just four seconds before the first period buzzer.  Park tied the match with a reversal early in the second period.  An escape 20 seconds into the final period gave Thomas a 302 lead, but Park worked a low single-leg takedown with 43 seconds remaining to set the state for the Golden Tide sophomore\’s late heroics.

\”That was a big win for Jeff,\”  Curwensville coach Duane Wriglesworth Jr. said.  \”He had never beaten Park.  I\’m very happy for him.\”

Brothers notched three takedowns and a pair of three-point nearfalls en route to a 15-3 win over Ian Grecco, Wriglesworth said.  \”We want him to work on his set-ups and be satisfied getting two.  It was good to see him do that tonight.\”

Brett Sutika (112, Brett McCracken (145), Matt Holland (152), Cody Botzman (171), Nick Sipes (189), Nathan Russell (215) and Nick Caldwell (275) got forfeits.

Curwensville will be on its home mat again Friday against Johnsonburg.

\”They\’re a good team, solid from top to bottom,\”  coach Wriglesworth said.  \”It\’s going to be a really tough match.\”
