In nearby Jefferson County, a house fire claimed the lives of two and caused two others to require emergency medical attention.
Schools were also newsmakers with students in Clearfield doing their part to break a world record, and West Branch parents learning about how to keep their children safe from modern-day dangers. In Montgomery County, sad news broke of a school shooting.
Courts were a hot topic as well with the re-trial of Jack Allen beginning Monday, two arrested for attempting to break into an area hospital and two Boggs Township residents facing harassment charges.

Fatal Fire Reported in Washington Township
REYNOLDSVILLE – An early-morning fire at a residence in Reynoldsville sent two to the hospital and left two dead according to DuBois-based state police.

Clearfield Elementary Students Help Attempt to Break a World Reading Record
CLEARFIELD – On Wednesday at Noon, students at Clearfield Elementary School joined over 500,000 children and adults across the United States attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the “Most People Reading Aloud Simultaneously in Multiple Locations.”

Drugs and Their Dangers Topic of Presentation at West Branch High School Thursday Night
ALLPORT – On an almost daily basis, drugs have an effect on the headlines in the news. Whether it is someone robbing a pharmacy for painkillers or 40-plus people being arrested for selling heroin and marijuana, drugs and their effects have become prevalent in Clearfield County everyday life.
To help inform parents about drugs and their affects, the West Branch Student Assistance Team and the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General teamed up for a presentation Thursday night at West Branch High School.

Pa. Teen Fatally Shoots Self at School
ERDENHEIM – An 11th-grader brought a rifle to school in a large duffel bag and shot himself to death in a hallway Tuesday morning between classes.

Convicted Killer Jack Allen has a Number of Motions Heard Leading up to Next Week’s Scheduled Trial
CLEARFIELD – Convicted murderer Jack Allen has had a busy couple of days leading up to his retrial, which is scheduled to start Monday at the Clearfield County Courthouse.
Allen was convicted of killing his wife Theresa Allen in 1995. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court recently sent the case back to Clearfield County after an appeal found that Allen had not been properly questioned in waiving his right to counsel during the 1995 trial.

Two Arrested After Incident at DRMC-West
DUBOIS – Two people were arrested for incidents at the DuBois Regional Medical Center on Tuesday.
DuBois City Police Department reported they were called to DRMC-West for a purse thief that was detained by hospital security. Police found that 19-year-old Joshua Good of DuBois had attempted to steal a purse from a secretary’s office.
Hospital security also informed police that there may have been other people attempting to break into vehicles in the hospital parking lot.

Judge Delays Decision in Harassment of Boggs Supervisor
PHILIPSBURG – It could be Wednesday before two Boggs Township residents will know Magisterial District Judge Allen Sinclair’s decision on harassment charges filed against them.
The summary offenses relate to an incident that allegedly happened after the Nov. 13 meeting of the Boggs Township Supervisors, and testimony revealed that one of the defendants is planning to seek a supervisor seat next year.

CLEARFIELD – Three people arrested as part of the drug bust that went down in Curwensville last May had motions and argument heard before Clearfield County Judge Fredric J. Ammerman on Tuesday.

Update on Sunnyside Ethanol, CEO Answers Questions
CURWENSVILLE – Sunnyside Ethanol continues to move forward, according to Sunnyside Ethanol LLC CEO Eric Wallace.
Sunnyside Ethanol first announced their intentions of building an ethanol plant at the old Howe’s Leather Co. site in Curwensville earlier in the year.
Wallace stated that his team submitted a number of permits to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection in September. Sunnyside was recently granted a permit to for the use of river water from the West Branch of the Susquehanna River.

Governor’s Award Given to Company Operating in Westover
WESTOVER – It was a “Tale of Two Companies,” according to J. Scott Roberts, deputy secretary for mineral resources management for the Department of Environmental Protection, that brought a Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence to a Venango County business operating in Clearfield County Thursday.
