CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Borough is considering a plan to curb filth in the downtown.
Clearfield Borough Police Chief Jeff Rhone said he has had several reports from downtown business owners that people are defecating behind businesses.
His suggestion: place signs up to tell people the location of public restrooms.
Borough council Thursday night asked where those areas might be.
Rhone suggested the Clearfield County Courthouse and the borough building, when those areas are open on the weekdays. At other times, he said people could use the police station.
“It is a problem, and I think it’s something that needs to be addressed,” Rhone said.
Council also discussed public restrooms that were in the downtown area many years ago.
“They were badly abused,” said Clearfield Borough Council President Jim Leitzinger, “and a public nuisance.”
Council could discuss the matter further at Thursday’s council meeting at 7 p.m.
