Snow began to fall Thursday in Clearfield County, and it made for some hazardous driving conditions. At least two accidents were caused by the winter weather in Clearfield County Thursday.
The first happened at about 1:50 p.m. in Huston Township.
Omar Martinez, 27, of Bronx, N.Y., was driving on state Route 153 when he lost control on the snow-covered roadway. His tractor-trailer struck the guide rail before jack-knifing.
State police at DuBois were assisted at that scene by the Penfield Fire Co.
Martinez was not injured, and he was wearing a seat belt.
The second happened near Luthersburg at about 4:01 p.m.
Franklin C. Sipes, 61, of Curwensville, was slowing for traffic when he slid on the snowy roads and hit a car driven April L. Smith, 38, of Curwensville, which was traveling in the opposite direction.
State police at DuBois noted that neither Sipes, nor Smith (who is Sipes’ daughter), were hurt in the accident. Both were wearing seat belts.
Police were assisted by Brady Township fire and emergency medical services.
