DUBOIS – The 2007 budget was unanimously approved for Sandy Township Monday night, and taxpayers will see only a three-quarter-mill tax increase.
The budget was a better one for property owners because the original budget showed a 1.5-mill increase.
Sandy Township Manager Richard Castonguay said the reconfiguration came because of Gov. Edward G. Rendell’s veto of a proposed change to the Emergency and Municipal Services Tax. If the governor had signed it, it would have meant a loss of more than $100,000 in tax revenue for the township.
Castonguay said he is hopeful that if the change to the EMS Tax were to be on the table again, there would be more time to implement it.
“I think it will come back again in 2007,” Castonguay said.
