CLEARFIELD – A home damaged by fire in Clearfield Borough’s East End will come down in the near future.
Clearfield Borough Code Enforcement Officer Jim Kling reported to Clearfield Borough Council that he would be issuing a demolition permit for the property, in the 500 block of Bigler Avenue.
To date, no charges have been filed, but Clearfield Borough Police said the fire was started by someone intentionally.
“What it looks like is they pushed open the rear door,” Clearfield Borough Police Cpl. Fye said in an earlier interview with GantDaily about the fire that began at about 3:29 a.m. Aug. 12 on Bigler Avenue in Clearfield Borough.
“(They) lit some trash and things that were on fire in there,” Fye said, noting that the fire started right inside the home’s door. “I don’t think there was any accelerant used; there wasn’t any need for it.”
The home was vacant at the time of the arson, and reports are that the home was not insured.
The structure was valued at $10,000.
The cost of the demolition will be picked up by the borough, with that amount to be recouped when the property is sold.
The demolition also means that a long-closed alleyway will open. The alley that connects Daisy Street with Bigler Avenue in the 500 block has been closed since the night of the fire.
