CLEARFIELD – Snow and ice must be removed from public sidewalks in Clearfield Borough within 12 hours following each snowfall.
The reminder comes from Jim Kling, borough code enforcement officer.
He issued the reminder recently, saying it is the responsibility of the homeowner or the occupant of each property to remove the snow. Failure to comply with the ordinance could result in a fine of not less than $25 with an additional violation issued every 24 hours until the walk is cleared. If a notice of a subsequent violation is necessary for the same property, fines could increase to the amount of $50 with additional violations to be issued every 24 hours until the sidewalk is cleared.
Clearfield Borough also thanked homeowners for their cooperation with the ongoing sewer separation project. But, it noted that many homeowners are attempting to comply with the separation by removing Clearwater infiltrations from their sanitary systems. It has also been noted that some homeowners are directing discharge waters from sump systems, roof drains, basements and French drainage systems onto many of Clearfield Borough’s public sidewalks.
This is in violation of borough code.
The borough asked that anyone who had made these changes to correct the problem. With the oncoming cold weather, Kling said, icing hazards might occurr.
