CLEARFIELD – State Rep. Camille “Bud” George, D-74 of Houtzdale, is urging residents to attend the landfill summit scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at the Third Ward fire hall, Park and Martin streets, in Clearfield.
“The landfill proposed for Boggs Township, if built, will be an indelible part of Clearfield County for generations to come,” said George, Democratic chairman of the House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee. “Residents would be well-advised to learn about the proposal and the many effects it would have on Clearfield County.”
The summit is sponsored by The Citizens Advocate.
“No matter what some officials would have you believe, Clearfield County is not powerless to stop the Boggs landfill or those sought in Chest Township or in Rush Township, Centre County,” George said. “We all live downwind and downstream from something, and each and every one of us has a stake in determining the future of our region.”
George said the 5,000-ton-a-day, municipal waste dump proposed for Boggs Township — dubbed the Camp Hope Run landfill –will choke our communities with hundreds of garbage trucks every day and counter efforts to promote the Pennsylvania Wilds region’s natural beauty.
“Citizens need to stand up and be counted if the site is geologically and environmentally unsound for a landfill and if it would create more harms than benefits,” George said. “Help is needed if we are going to determine the future of the region rather than the landfill developers who see our backyards as simply a way to make money.
“The landfill summit is an excellent opportunity to make a stand for Clearfield County and its future.”
