CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield man is pushing to make Clearfield Borough Council more accountable for the Clearfield Driving Park.
Bill Rishel presented a letter to council that detailed actions he wanted to be taken at the borough-owned property.
First, he wanted council to relieve the present fair board of their duties and take necessary actions to freeze the board’s assets. He also pushed for the hiring of Leon Meyer as the driving park general manager with a two-year contract. Finally, he wanted an audit of the borough’s driving park assets.
According to Rishel’s correspondence, “This will allow the driving park to be immediately operated under a manager that has proven his abilities over the last two years. It will also give council time to reorganize the fair board and consider a new contract.”
Rishel also took issue with a media report that the fair has $1 million in their accounts. However, a recent GantDaily interview with Clearfield County Fair and Park Board Publicity Director Brenda Hunter revealed that much of that money is tied up in investments. If the money were to be withdrawn now, she said, it would amount to a substantial loss.
Clearfield Borough Council President Jim Leitzinger said he met with three fair board members in September and they were to report back to him with further information. A meeting is being set up to address some of Rishel’s issues.
“This is important to not only the borough and the taxpayers in the borough, but I think it’s important to Clearfield County,” Rishel said.
