CLEARFIELD – Anyone who has attempted to travel in the area of the Nichols Street and Fulton Street intersections in Clearfield at busy hours knows that trying to make a turn is sometimes difficult.
Sometimes traffic attempting to make a left turn from Front Street onto the Nichols Street bridge backs up to the light at Fulton Street and traffic going the other direction is unable to make left turns into places such as Subway.
The issue was brought up recently by Clearfield Borough Council, and it could be brought to the attention of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation soon.
The matter was approved during a work session and will now go before the full council on Thursday night. If approved, Clearfield Borough Solicitor F. Cortez “Chip” Bell III will send a letter to PennDOT to ask how the issue can be resolved.
The Nichols Street intersection was the subject of a traffic study before Sheetz moved their store from downtown Clearfield to its current site on Nichols Street.
PennDOT must be contacted to resolve the issue because Front Street is a state highway.
