WEST DECATUR – Boggs Township’s board of supervisors held a special meeting two weeks ago, and after that meeting, it was discovered that the township’s engineer shared a ride with officials from PA Waste LLC.
Robert Hasemeier, engineer with Gannett Flemming Inc., and working for Boggs Township, said he did not think it was inappropriate to accept a ride from Harrisburg to the Boggs Township meeting from the engineer for PA Waste.
After accepting the ride, he said he learned that other PA Waste representatives would be in the vehicle. PA Waste has proposed constructing a landfill in Boggs Township.
Hasemeier said he and Randy Wood, PA Waste’s engineer, are old friends, and doing such things as sharing rides is common in the engineering business.
Hasemeier said he spoke with Gannett Flemming’s attorney and related that he found the shared ride to be OK and “not inappropriate.”
Hasemeier then deferred to the board as to whether they would continue to use Gannett Flemming’s services.
“We’re continuing services from Gannett Flemming,” said Bill Dickson, Boggs Township supervisor chairman.
The Clearfield County Commissioners already decided to hire their own engineer to review PA Waste’s permit application once it is submitted to the Department of Environmental Protection.
Commissioners said they did the same when Chest Township was involved in a landfill battle.
