Clearfield — The simple idea of Larry Moyer several years ago to play a past your prime softball game has now become an annual highlight of summer for dozens of area softball players.
The annual charity event will draw 9 teams on August 19th and 20th to Bucky Strunk Memorial Field for a double-elimination modified fast-pitch tournament.
Saturday\’s first round match-ups are set:
8:00 AM Houtzdale vs. Slabtown
9:30 AM Buster\’s vs. Meatheads
11:00 AM Legend\’s vs. WW Engine
12:30 PM Used to be Goods (Emporium) vs. Potter\’s
Bob Boob Garage – first round bye
All the teams go into the tourney hoping to upend the 3-time defending Meatheads.
The main charity for this year\’s event as chosen by co-directors Jerry Bickel, George Holobinko, and Dendo Robison is the Marine Corps League Toys for Tots program.
Thousands of dollars over the years has been donated to charities that help local youth, such as :
YMCA\’s, The Second Mile, Make-a-wish Foundation, and the Curwensville Rec Fund.
Everyone is invited to attend, even if it\’s just to buy a hot dog at Dendo Robison\’s concession stand, or buy some chances from the Marine Corps League on some great prizes donated by numerous local businesses.
The weekend will be full of great competition, good friends, a lot of fun, and that inevitable pulled hamstring.
A truly great event!! Don\’t miss it!!
