Kenny Rogers and the Oak Ridge Boys Headlined Country Night

CLEARFIELD – The Oak Ridge Boys and Kenny Rogers rounded out the week’s entertainment Saturday night at the Clearfield County Fair. In a near sold-out show, both acts played old classics and new songs.

Veterans of the Clearfield County Fair, The Oak Ridge Boys opened the show, belting out classic tunes such as “Bobby Sue” and “Elvira.” During “Elvira,” the crowd got involved and sang the chorus. The Oak Ridge Boys sounded sharp, and the crowd was really into their music, clapping their hands and stomping their feet.

The Oak Ridge Boys played some new songs as well, such as “Heaven is a Small Town” and “It’s Hard to Be Cool in a Minivan,” which the crowd really enjoyed.

Kenny Rogers finished out the show. Rogers went through his list of hits, playing tunes like “Coward of the County,” “Ruby Don’t Take Your Love to Tow, ” and “the Greatest.” Rogers also performed some new songs as well. One of the more notables new songs was “We Even Lost Superman,” a retrospective of the last 10 years.

While the song focused on events such as 9/11, stock fraud and the Oklahoma City bombing, the title referred to the passing of Christopher Reeve, who starred in the “Superman” movies of the 1980s, and became a stem cell research advocate after a horse riding accident left him paralyzed in the 1990s. Reeve passed away Oct. 10, 2004.

“We’re gonna miss you Chris,” said Rogers at the end of the song.
